It seems that every day there are new social media platforms gaining popularity. But is every network right for your brand? Usually not. Social media is a great marketing tool but only when you have enough relevant content and time to dedicate to it. You don’t want to spread your content or your time too thin. It’s important to not only post content your audience is excited to see, but on a frequent enough basis that they come back for more.
When starting out on social media, it is important to know who your audience is and where they hang out online. It’s a lot easier to insert yourself into an existing conversation about your brand, than to try to start a party by yourself. Go to the platform where the majority of your fanbase is first.
Before hopping on the bandwagon of the hottest new social media platform, ask yourself the below:
1) What audience is primarily on this platform?
2) Who am I trying to target?
3) How are similar brands using these social networks?
4) What kind of content does well on this platform?
5) Do I have enough time to dedicate to this?
From here you should be able to clearly establish whether your brand is a good fit. For example, if you want to be on YouTube but don’t have ongoing videos to post frequently it may be better to dedicate your time to another platform.
For the best social media results, remember to focus on quality over quantity because after all content is king!
